WHAT IS A PUDDLE PUMP?

A puddle pump is a special type of pump which is automatic or manually operated for low level water that does not need to be fully submersed in water.

What are the advantages of a puddle pump?

Puddle pumps can pump to very low levels of water (i.e a puddle) approx 1-3mm deep,  without the pump overheating or becoming damaged. This removes the need for a chamber to be dug, consequently, there is less disruption to your premises.

Can a puddle pump run dry?

As they are designed for operating in low water levels, puddle pumps can run dry for a few seconds without causing damage to the pump.

 

What is the difference between standard submersible pumps and puddle pumps?

Puddle pumps differ primarily from standard submersible pumps in that they can pump shallow bodies of water without overheating which subsequently can cause damage to the pump.

As a result of this feature, puddle pumps are commonly used as portable devices for stand alone operations such as basement drainage following a burst pipe or emptying tanks. In addition, most puddle pumps are manually operated.
